Ryan Capes' World Record Motorcycle Jump photograph

Grand Sierra Resort celebrated the opening of its newest venue, Xtreme Sports Bar + Lounge with a record-breaking jump by nationally recognized motocross rider Ryan Capes.

Thousands of people packed the front of Grand Sierra Resort to be part of the historic day and watch Ryan break the world record ramp-to-ramp motocross jump. On Capes first jump he broke the record clearing a amazing 287 feet over the previous record of 252 feet set by Jason Rennie in 1999. However that wasn’t good enough for Capes...

“I promised my fans not only was I going to break the ramp-to-ramp world record, I promised my fans that I’d be the first guy to jump ramp-to-ramp 300 feet,” Capes said.

So after some adjustment to the ramp distance, Ryan throttled towards the take off ramp going over 80mph, and soared over the crowd, jumping an incredible 316 feet, leaving no question that he is “the king of distance motocross jumping”.

After the world record jump the Livfast team continued to wow the crowd with their phenomenal acrobatic trick jumps. The talented Livfast team of riders included Jesse Jolson, Greg Stevens, Kenny Bell, Greg Garrison, Dustin Miller, Matt Buyten, Brian Foster, Adam Jones, Mike Mason, Drake McElroy, Beau Bamburg, Derek Burley and others.

Festivities continued into the evening with a rockin’ and rollin’ performance by Mini Kiss, the biggest, little Kiss Tribute band. Along with Mini Kiss were live performances by Audioboxx and DJ Euera during the after-party in Xtreme Sports Bar + Lounge.

In attendance were football star Charles Mann, Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons, Mayor Bob Cashell and local Olympic skier Tim Jitloff, snowboarding stars Eric Jackson and other well-known professional snowboarders, wake boarders and extreme sports enthusiasts.

Ryan’s Bike: Dubbed the “Destroyer” by Capes, the morphed ’09 special edition Monster Energy/Kawasaki KX250F also features Showa “A-stuff” works suspension, a Pro Circuit motor tune and titanium fasteners, nuts and bolts everywhere, courtesy of Met Tec. “Destroyer will weigh less than 200 pounds – some 40 pounds less than my previous KX450F that I set the world distance record on this past year, 391’-4’’ in Washington,” says Capes.

General Information

tahoe0008.jpgThe Reno-Tahoe area is quite possibly the most versatile and tourism rich area in the country. The Lake Tahoe area is known for its beauty and outdoor adventure options and is a popular vacation destination for lovers of both cold and warm weather.

This versatile area offers the best of both worlds with ample attractions and activities for both winter and summer vacations. Summer activities in the Lake Tahoe region include golfing, boating, biking, hiking, fishing, water sports, tennis, horseback riding, aerial tours, lake cruises and more. tahoe0011.jpgKayaking and sailing are popular activities, and the lake is always active with people on water skis and jet skis. Several beaches provide lots of water-related fun or just a chance to relax in the sand with a good book. Surrounded by mountains, the lake sits in a valley at an elevation of 6,229 feet and is 22 miles in length and 12 miles in width and covers a surface area of 191 square miles. It is the highest lake of its size in the United States. It is the third deepest lake in North America and the tenth deepest lake in the world. The consistently beautiful shoreline is 71 miles, with the California shoreline being 42 miles and the Nevada shoreline being 29 miles. The majority of this gorgeous lakes shoreline is protected by the United States Forest Service, and its residents are very proud of, and have a fierce environmental commitment to the Lake and its surroundings.

Amazing Lake Tahoe

  • Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America.
  • Lake Tahoe’s deepest point at 1,645 feet makes it the third deepest lake in North America and the tenth deepest in the world.
  • Lake Tahoe is as long as the English Channel is wide with the width of Tahoe being half again as wide as San Francisco Bay.
  • With one dispersion of Lake Tahoe’s water, the State of California would be completely covered to a depth of 14.5 inches.
  • The Panama Canal (700 feet in width and 50 feet in depth) could be filled by Lake Tahoe’s water and extend completely around the earth at the equator, with enough remaining in the lake to fill another channel of the same width and depth running from San Francisco to New York.
  • An average 1,400,000 tons of water evaporates from the surface of Lake Tahoe every 24 hours, yet this drops the lake level only one-tenth of an inch.
  • If the water that evaporates from the lake every 24 hours could be recovered, it would supply the daily requirements of a population of 3,500,000 people.
  • Lake Tahoe’s water is 99.9% pure. The water is so clear that a 10 inch white dinner plate would be visible at 75 feet below the surface.
  • There are 63 tributaries draining into Lake Tahoe with only one outlet at the Truckee River.
  • Lake Tahoe never freezes due to the constant mass movement of water from the bottom to the surface. In February 1989, Emerald Bay froze over for the first time since 1952.

Activities and Adventure

emma_kayaking.jpgKayaking Experience the mountain splendor of summer in Lake Tahoe, and explore the beautiful shores and shallows while gliding along in a stable kayak designed especially for open water paddling. Sunrise to sunset, kayaking is a pleasurable pastime on Lake Tahoe. Echo Lake is also particularly nice for kayaking and canoe as you can paddle from the Lower Lake into Upper Echo Lake.

Sailing Lake Tahoe is a pristine alpine lake in the Sierra-Nevada mountains. Divided by California and Nevada this lake and surrounding area is on of the most beautiful places in the world. Nestled by mountain peaks. Sailing Lake Tahoe is fun and adventurous. The predominant winds are north westerlies though winds can change during the day. Sailing season starts in May and continues through October. When in Tahoe, relax aboard a charter cruise, or rent a sailboat. Discover why Lake Tahoe’s size, weather, and wind conditions make it a perfect pleasure to sail. photo_2_0001.jpg

Lake Tahoe Cruises A nice opportunity to get out and see for yourself just how clear the lake really is! There are several companies offering different types of cruises on the lake, both powered and sailing trips.

Fishing Lake Tahoe’s popular Alpine waters provide an angling haven for both beginners and experienced freshwater anglers. With a 75-mile radius of Lake Tahoe there are more than 450 lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams – each with its own fishing profile. Many of the lakes in the high country are stocked regularly by various public agencies. There are at least eight varieties of trout: mackinaws (lake trout), rainbows, German brown trout, golden trout, cutthroat trout, brook trout, Paiute trout and camloop trout.

Parasailing on Lake Tahoe Experience the effortless and awesome thrill of parasailing over Lake Tahoe as you enjoy spectacular vistas during your quiet and serene ride at 10 to 1200 ft. in the air! Parasailing is safe, fun and easy. Fly solo or in tandem; experience a gentle launch and landing from a boat – stay dry, or be dipped in the water. Some companies allow family and friends to ride along if there is space onboard.

Water Skiing What could be more exhilarating than skimming across Lake Tahoe at high speed on skis, slalom, wake boards, or kneeboards! Water Ski School Water ski school provides instruction for beginners through advanced skiers. The school uses top equipment, such as Ski Natique competition ski boats. All students are offered wet suits, skis, wake boards, and tube rides. Boats will cary one to five skiers or observers, making for a fun family or group activity. Ski or just enjoy the ride on beautiful Lake Tahoe. Bring your camera! The school is only open during the summer.

Wind Surfing Glide across beautiful Lake Tahoe with an instructor who can teach you the joys of this exciting sport. Experienced Wind Surfers can rent equipment.

Kite Boarding Lake Tahoe is a breeding ground for new water sports, whether of the frozen or liquid variety. That, combined with frequent afternoon winds, meant it was only matter of time before kiteboarding took hold here. And take hold it has. In the winter, you’ll see the kites flying on many of the area’s frozen lakes or even just open spaces. Some of the favorite spots include Hope Valley, Caples Lake, and Grass Lake (at the top of Luther Pass), or others. Basically anywhere with a large open area, good wind, and a road nearby (there is a lot of equipment involved). In the summer, many beaches are fair game, although the consistent winds and lack of obstructions at Nevada Beach give it the locals’ thumbs up. Why not consider a new sport today?

Scuba Diving SunSports is the only dedicated full service dive store in Tahoe specializing in altitude diving, diving and during the winter cold water diving and ice diving. SunSports has a staff of four Padi instructors that have specialized in high altitude diving and many other areas. Being located in Lake Tahoe means that they have close access to the dive spots on the lake. The instructors and dive masters know where the best dives are on the lake. They are very understanding and patient as well as being professional in making your diving at Lake Tahoe an enjoyable and memorable experience.

River Rafting River rafting is a great way to be close to nature as you float past open meadows and timbered slopes. Rafting is a fun adventure for singles, families, and groups. Skiing and Snowboarding

ski0008.jpgReno/Tahoe is ideally situated in the High Sierra, the snowiest region on the North American Continent, where snow is known to have fallen in every month of the year. The Sierra Nevada is directly in the path of huge Northern Pacific storms that swing in from the Gulf of Alaska, so the Lake Tahoe Basin gets routinely hammered with “white gold”, in a surprisingly short amount of time. In fact, the Lake Tahoe Basin gets more average annual snowfall than either Utah or Colorado. Lake Tahoe is home to over a dozen ski resorts. Whether you prefer Alpine or Nordic, you will find one of the longest ski seasons anywhere. On the north shore you will find Squaw Valley, the home of the 1960 Winter Olympics and Alpine Meadows, the skier’s mountain.. Northstar-at-Tahoe, and Mt. Rose, also make their homes on the north shore. On Lake Tahoe’s south shore you will find Heavenly. Heavenly offers up the creature comforts and terrific views. Our ski season usually runs from Thanksgiving through Easter, with Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows usually battling to close last during the month of May, with Squaw offering up turns on the Fourth of July, conditions permitting.
