Things to do in Reno in Winter

Get a Little R&R

If there’s one thing holiday vacationers want, it’s a little rest and relaxation. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is the perfect way to reset, and Grand Sierra Resort has got you covered. We offer massages, facials, nail and hair services, and all-inclusive spa services to make sure you have everything you need to be perfectly pampered. If you just want a soak and a place to zen out, grab a spa day pass and enjoy all-day access to our sauna, steam room, jacuzzis, and decadent relaxation lounge.

Go Ice Skating

Ice skating in the high desert? Why not! We’ve brought this winter favorite to Grand Sierra Resort and are so excited to watch you bring the moves. Think you’re the next Michelle Kwan? Come show us at The Ice Rink, our outdoor ice skating rink.

Hit the Slopes

If there is one thing that the Reno-Tahoe area is known for, it’s our world-class skiing and snowboarding. There are some amazing spots within an hour drive from Grand Sierra Resort, including Mt. Rose, Sky Tavern, and Tahoe Donner. After a long day of skiing and snowboarding, The Pool at GSR is the perfect place to kick back and features a full-service bar, areas for both kids and adults, and of course, a heated pool and brand new hot tubs. There’s nothing quite like sitting in the hot tub and relaxing your muscles after a full day on the slopes.

Warm Up by the Fire

While you’re at The Pool, why not enjoy a classic fireside treat? Our resort pool area includes elegant fire pits that are perfect for warming up those winter toes. Our winter poolside menu includes bread bowls with beef stew or chili, chicken pot pie, and of course, s’mores. Our seasonal cocktails are also popular. Choose from a Hot Toddy, Peach Cobbler, or our signature “Butterfinger” (butterscotch schnapps and hot cocoa).

Adventure Out

The Reno-Tahoe area offers adventure year-round, and winter is no exception. Strap on your snowshoes and head to Emerald Bay and Eagle Point to enjoy breathtaking views, and maybe even catch a glimpse of a bald eagle or some of the region's other majestic wildlife. Located about an hour-and-a-half away from Grand Sierra Resort, this is a great day trip for the whole family. Or try your hand at cross-country skiing at the famous Tahoe XC, north Tahoe’s premier cross-country ski area. All of these beautiful destinations are only about an hour away and are suitable for both beginners and outdoor pros.

Enjoy Family Time

One of the biggest draws of the holidays in Reno is that it’s chock-full of family-friendly activities. Here at Grand Sierra Resort, our Fun Quest offers laser tag, more than 125 arcade games, bumper cars, and our newest addition, Carnival Midway, featuring classic carnival games and great prizes. We even have a bowling alley on site.

And all around the resort this Christmas, we’re putting on a light show like never before. Celebrate the holidays with mesmerizing lights and decorations that are sure to bring a smile to both young and old. Oh, and Santa will be paying a very special visit to GSR this year, so tell the kids to get their wish list ready.

Get a Good Night’s Rest

The best way to recharge and keep the fun going all holiday break long is to get a good night’s sleep. Our luxury accomodations at The A add an extra touch of class to your stay. The suites feature decadently comfortable bedding, spa-inspired bathrooms, and plenty of room to unwind. When you wake up refreshed, the fun never has to end.

Reno-Tahoe has a little bit of everything and is perfect for the dream holiday escape. Whether you’re here with your honey and just want to relax, brought all the kids and are ready for an epic laser tag battle, or have dusted off your skis and are hitting the slopes, Grand Sierra Resort can be your home for the holidays.
