Diabel Samb
International Casino Host

Diabel has called the Biggest Little City home for the past 10 years, but was born in Senegal, West Africa. A married man with three kids, Diabel is known for his loyalty and friendliness who prides himself on going above and beyond when it comes to guest service. He joined GSR in August of 2020 and graces the property with over six years of casino marketing and hospitality experience.

Diabel enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer and is a big fan of basketball.

Barbara St. John
Executive Casino Host

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised in Tucson, Arizona, but fell in love with Reno, Nevada. Over 50 years ago, Barbara moved here for a summer job and was instantly excited by the town and its casinos and has never looked back! Her experience in the industry ranges from food and beverage, poker, marketing, event coordination, and finally to her current role as Casino Host. When she’s not at GSR, she loves golfing, bowling and driving her ’66 Mustang. Barbara is also an avid traveler, who’s visited the Mediterranean, Alaska, Hawaii, the Mexican Riviera, Caribbean Islands, Brazil, and Costa Rica.

“My gaming experience and travel knowledge has helped me as a host, allowing me to connect with and take care of my guests, no matter the distance they have traveled and I look forward to seeing you on your next visit to GSR and learning more about you!”

Leslie Barnett
Executive Casino Host

Leslie is originally from southern California, but has lived and worked in Reno and the Bay Area for around 20 years. She initially joined Grand Sierra Resort in 1998 (back before it was even known as GSR!) When Leslie is not at work, she loves traveling, music festivals and wine, and indulging in her favorite reality TV show; Top Chef! Straight out of college, Leslie had a passion for the hospitality industry by working on cruise ships for five years then went to work for Hilton. After opening up a casino in New Orleans, Leslie headed to Sacramento area at Thunder Valley Casino for 10 years.

“Reno became my home again in 2014, and I’m so happy to be back! I have always loved GSR and everything it has to offer our players. I look forward to getting to know you better and offering you first class service on your next visit to GSR.”

Violeta Padua
Executive Casino Host

Violeta was born and raised in the Philippines before moving to Reno, Nevada 28 years ago with her family. She started her career in the casino industry in July of 1995, where she worked her way up from Slot Attendant to High Limit Representative, and eventually was promoted to an Executive Casino Host. She joined the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in 2018 as an Executive Casino Host.

“I enjoy taking a cruise, camping, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with my family as well as visiting different restaurants.”

Audrey Carlson
VIP Casino Host

This southern California native left after high school to travel, work and explore the States. Along the way, Audrey developed a fascination with people and found the casino industry an exciting place to develop. Beginning her career in Las Vegas in 1985, Audrey has always loved the excitement of casino life, but it’s her guests that really make coming to work such a pleasure. By stepping into casino host role in 1995, Audrey has developed a knowledge and genuine interest in people’s lives. When she’s not at work, Audrey enjoys being with family, spending time with my grand-daughter, and exploring south Reno, with Lake Tahoe as her front view and the Virginia hills in her backyard.

“There is no greater joy than knowing I was part of some of their (my guests) fondest memories and I look forward to your next visit to GSR and getting to know you better.”

Juan Palomino
VIP Casino Host

Originally from Jalisco, Mexico, Juan has truly grown to love this community and the people in it after moving here in the 1990s. He has infectious energy; rarely will you see him without a smile on his face. With many years of hospitality experience under his belt, Juan truly exemplifies Grand service.

The free spirit lists listening to music as his favorite hobby and believes life would not be complete without a soundtrack. He would love to chat about any new genre you have to share!

“My Latin background has allowed me to explore many new horizons, and I’m proud of it! I am so happy to be a part of a great company like Grand Sierra Resort and a great community in Northern Nevada. Brenda Guzman Sotelo
VIP Host

Brenda was born and raised here in Reno NV and has lived her entire life in the Reno/Sparks area. Brenda joined the casino industry in 2010. She started her career in food and beverage and transitioned to casino marketing and taking the role of Casino Host. In her free time, Brenda enjoys spending time with her family and children, Isabella and Madelynn. Brenda is bilingual in English and Spanish, so please do not hesitate to contact her to learn more about VIP benefits and amenities. Guest service is her priority and it would be a pleasure to assist with any questions you may have.

Kaycea Grignon
Executive Director of Marketing

Kaycea tends to be a jack of all trades. Besides years of experience in the marketing, special events and the hospitality industry, Kaycea also teaches yoga, snowboards regularly, and is passionate about veganism. This “yogi,” as she calls herself is married and has two dogs whom she likes to refer to as her “pumpkins.”

“I am proud to be a part of a beautiful and unique company like GSR because it is a Las Vegas style resort with all the amenities in Northern Nevada and it’s only one hour from Lake Tahoe!”
