Sax Legend

Almost like clockwork, smooth jazz saxophonist Kenny G has unveiled a new studio effort every couple years since his 1982 eponymous debut. Fourteen studio sets, not to mention live collections and holiday albums, have led to worldwide tours and concerts galore. The contemporary jazz musician, who first started performing professionally in the mid-‘70s with Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra, now sells tickets to his own arena shows.

Kenny G’s fourth studio effort, 1986’s “Duotones,” marked the beginning of his commercial success. That collection topped Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and produced two Top 3 singles, “Songbird” and “Don’t Make Me Wait for Love.” His 1992 release, “Breathless,” marks his most successful effort to date, selling more than 12 million copies.

Along with holding a Guinness World record for longest note ever recorded on a saxophone (45 minutes and 47 seconds), Kenny G has a long and varied list of former collaborators, including Natalie Cole, Andrea Bocelli, Steve Miller, Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, among others.
