Prezident Brown, born Fitz Albert Cotterell in mid-1960s Jamaica, gained fame in the 1980s on local sound systems. Renamed by producer Jack Ruby, he became the resident deejay for Hi-Power. His early hits, such as "Tears," "Everything Is Right," and "Mickey Mouse," showcased his cultural lyrics. In 1995, he wowed audiences at Reggae Sumfest and Reggae Sunsplash. Collaborations with artists like Everton Blender and Steel Pulse expanded his reach, and "Red Alert" topped the Jamaican singles chart. He toured the US extensively, with notable performances at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, and continues to tour following his 2012 album, "I Sound Is From Creation".
