Charlie Palmer Steak Reno Welcomes New Executive Chef

RENO, Nev. (Sept. 28, 2023) – Charlie Palmer Steak, Reno’s only celebrity chef-owned restaurant, along with Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR), is excited to announce the hiring of a new executive chef, David Morriss. With a career spanning over three decades, Chef Morriss brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to Northern Nevada.

A master of the culinary arts, Chef Morriss’ extensive culinary journey began at the esteemed Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, where he fine-tuned his skills and earned his AA degree with high marks. His passion for food led him to further pursue his education, earning his trade degree from the California Sushi Academy, showcasing his dedication to mastering the craft.

Following the completion of his education, Chef Morriss began working at some of the country’s best restaurants, including stepping into French cuisine kitchens in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. After refining his culinary techniques, Chef Morriss moved to Mammoth Lakes, where he elevated his dining experiences by running establishments such as Restaurant LuLu out of San Francisco. Putting his sushi techniques to the test, he helped open most of the sushi bars throughout Mammoth Lakes, leaving his imprint on the popular cuisine in Central California.

With years of experience under his chef’s hat, Chef Morriss continued to grow as he embraced leadership roles within the kitchen, including serving as Sous Chef at the famed Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth before taking on the role of Food and Beverage Director at Double Eagle Spa & Resort in June Lake. He never left his love of sushi behind him, moonlighting at a sushi bar during the evenings.

In addition to building his career in culinary arts, Chef Morriss spent most of his youth as a professional surfer and snowboarder and is looking forward to carving up the Sierra Nevada slopes during the winter season.

Guests can get to know Chef Morriss during the upcoming The Beefsteak event on Saturday, Sept. 30 alongside Chef Charlie Palmer and the rest of the Charlie Palmer Steak team. For more information about Charlie Palmer Steak or to make a reservation visit grandsierraresort.com.
