Grand Sierra Resort and Casino Partners with Nevada Athletics and Vaughn Middle School for Girls Athlete Empowerment Day

RENO, Nev. (April 26, 2024) – Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) is proud to continue its relationship with Nevada Athletics and Vaughn Middle School (VMS) by partnering for Girls Athlete Empowerment Day. This event brought together Nevada Women Athletes and VMS girls in an effort to inspire and empower the next generation of female athletes.

“We’re honored to collaborate with Nevada Athletics and Vaughn Middle School for this impactful event," said Shannon Keel, General Manager of GSR. "We believe in the importance of fostering young talent and providing opportunities for growth, and this event perfectly aligns with our commitment to supporting youth development."

During the event, Nevada athletes shared heartfelt stories about their passion for sports, memories of their athletic journeys, powerful backstories and advice for the VMS girl athletes. The panel discussion, hosted by Alexis Meruelo, Chief Vision and Purpose Officer of the Meruelo Group, offered valuable insights into the dedication, perseverance and determination required to excel in sports.

Following the panel, VMS girls had the opportunity to learn new skills alongside members of the Nevada Women Athletes and played a volleyball scrimmage with the Nevada athletes, putting their new skills to the test.

“We’re grateful to GSR and Nevada Athletics for this incredible opportunity," said Amanda Lobkowicz, Principal of Vaughn Middle School. "The impact of this event on our students goes beyond the court — it instills confidence, determination and a belief in their potential."

The Girls Athlete Empowerment Day is part of GSR’s ongoing commitment to youth education, bettering the community and promoting gender equality in sports.
