With their blend of rock, soul, blues and roots-driven grit, Alabama Shakes emerged as one of the most powerful and distinctive bands of the last decade. Led by Brittany Howard, whose soul-piercing vocals have earned widespread acclaim, the band’s debut album “Boys & Girls” became a breakout sensation, driven by their hit single “Hold On” and earning multiple Grammy nominations. Their follow-up record, “Sound & Color,” catapulted the band to new heights, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and winning four Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Performance.
In 2018, the group went on a hiatus, allowing members to focus on solo projects. In 2019, Howard released her debut solo album, “Jaime,” to critical acclaim, while guitarist Heath Fogg released a project under the name Sun on Shade. Following the stint of solo success, Alabama Shakes reunited for a surprise show in 2024 and officially confirmed new music just a short time later.
