Reno’s premier gaming-resort’s charitable program has donated over $1,000,000 and serves the community through volunteer opportunities, sponsorships and donations
RENO, Nev. (Nov. 3, 2021) – Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) is committed to giving back to the Reno community through GSR Cares, a resort-wide program that supports worthwhile initiatives, as well as local and community-minded organizations and charities that help elevate the region and benefit those in need.
Since debuting in 2014, GSR has donated over $1,000,000 through sponsorships and donations. With children and education at the program’s forefront, GSR has worked extensively with organizations including Children’s Cabinet, Make-A-Wish® Northern Nevada,Boys and Girls Club, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Education Alliance of Washoe County, Toys for Tots, Vaughn Middle School and Robert Mitchell Elementary School among many other organizations. Recently, GSR made a donation to Vaughn Middle School for much needed sporting equipment and to replace an old scoreboard. GSR has also partnered with Lyft and Zero Fatalities Coalition to prevent impaired driving in Northern Nevada.
GSR hosted the official grand opening celebration to welcome the newest addition to the resort-casino, Jamba® this September, which also served as a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish® Northern Nevada. The Northern Nevada region of the local chapter creates life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses and is on a quest to bring every eligible local child’s wish to life.
Team members have also been involved in numerous volunteering opportunities with local groups through GSR Cares, including the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, as well as hosting events, such as Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure to benefit the Reno community.

Nominate a Grand Hero
The casino-resort is continuing its monthly “Grand Hero” program, where community members are asked to nominate everyday heroes in their local communities from teachers to first responders to volunteers and all those in-between to receive a relaxing resort vacation as an expression of thanks. GSR selects one winner each month and rewards the chosen hero with a complimentary two-night stay at Northern Nevada’s premier resort destination, a food and beverage credit to use at any of the sumptuous restaurants featured throughout the casino-resort and a spa certificate for The Spa at Grand Sierra Resort.
Change for Charities
Guests at GSR can give back to local Northern Nevada charities while playing their favorite slot games through the resort-casino’s new “Change for Charities” program. When players cash in their slot tickets at property ATMs, they are given the opportunity to donate the change to their choice of one of four predetermined local charities, which rotate on an ongoing basis. Each month, the money is collected and sent to the respective charities.
