Grand Sierra Resort and Casino honors a Nevada teacher as June’s “Grand Hero”

Reno’s premier gaming-resort honors healthcare workers, first responders and teachers with “Grand Hero” nomination program

RENO, Nev. (Aug. 17, 2022) – Nicole Thomas, Las Vegas, Nev., will make her way to Northern Nevada to spend a weekend of fun with family at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR). The English teacher is the property’s latest “Grand Hero.”

Nominated by her husband, Thomas knew she wanted to be a teacher from the moment she stepped foot in a classroom. Her passion for teaching students pushed her through the six years she spent earning her teaching certifications. She continued her growth during her teaching career by sacrificing her summers for training, all to be a better teacher for her students. Thomas puts her students first and does whatever she can to prepare them for success. A recent example includes creating a care package for an AP exam with candies and motivational stickers.

Thomas will be treated to a two-night stay at GSR, $200 in dining credits and a $200 spa gift card. She has family in Reno and plans on spending as much time as possible with them over her stay.

The “Grand Hero” initiative was introduced in March 2021. Community members are asked to nominate deserving healthcare workers, first responders, teachers and other everyday heroes to receive a relaxing resort vacation as an expression of thanks for their efforts in supporting the local community throughout the past year.

Community members can nominate everyday heroes for GSR’s “Grand Hero” program by visiting GSR will select a winner once a month and will reward the chosen hero with a complimentary two-night stay at Northern Nevada’s premier resort destination, a food and beverage credit to use at the wide variety of restaurants featured throughout the casino-resort and a spa certificate for The Spa at Grand Sierra Resort.
